A fortnight of fundraising culminated in a
golden-themed free dress day on Friday 15th September for all of the
students of our school.
Alby Everett, Grade 5, has organised, advertised
and led the fundraising for the month of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness
Month, with all funds going to Brainchild Foundation. In addition to the free
dress day where students paid a gold-coin and wore gold and yellow, every
morning before school Alby sold gold ribbons and charged 50c a guess at his
'guess the number of jelly beans' stall.
Alby says, “This is important to me because I have
survived 3 brain tumours and some kids aren’t so lucky. Also I want kids to be out there doing what I
can do. Anything is possible with some
help. Brainchild helped me. Now I want
to help Brainchild back.”
Principal Gerard Quinn praised Alby, saying "He's
quite an inspiration to people around him … you see the level of respect he
gets. We're so proud of him."
