Kids in Action is Sunshine Coast Council’s environmental education initiative that aims to increase children’s environmental knowledge and understanding, and inspire and provide opportunities for positive environmental and sustainability action.
Bli Bli State School students who expressed an interest in the program have been selected to participate in this year’s Kids in Action program.
Thanks to our Head of Curriculum Mr Batson’s quick actions, the Sunshine Coast Council’s Early registration incentive for the Kids in Action program saw Bli Bli State School win a iPad mini for the school. This was presented to the students by enthusiastic Council representatives Sandi Johnson (SCC Waste Management Representative) and Steve Robinson (Councillor).
This enthusiasm is shared by the students who recently participated in the Environmental Project Day which included activities such as Bunya Dreaming with Aunty Bev and Beneficial Bugs in the Bush by BugsEd.
This was an enjoyable and informative day at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and helped students cement their workshop/project topic of the survival and ecosystems of the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly, a vulnerable species endemic to Bli Bli State School area.
Students together with Ms Jacki Goss (Diverse Learners Coach) will research and develop an interactive workshop for the Kids in Action Conference to be presented during the Sunshine Coast Councils Kids Teaching Kids Week in September.
