On Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th August, all classes participated
in The Mad Food Science Program. Belinda Smith, Health and Wellness Coach from
The Root Cause ran interactive workshops with all of our grades that covered
the topics below.
1. What
is a wholefood and what is a processed food.
2. Understanding
carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and why all of them are important.
3. Understanding
how sugar affects mood, behaviour and learning.
4. What
is an additive and preservative, and how they affect mood, behaviour and
learning.
5. How
to read labels on food packets.
Belinda, a mum herself, says the aim of the
interactive workshop is to use fun ways to get children to understand why
processed foods really should be an “occasional” food and why it’s so important
to eat fresh fruit and vegetables. Thanks to the support of our P&C
Association all children could attend the Mad Food Science Program free of
charge.
