Months and months of singing, dancing and acting rehearsals have culminated in the staging of our unique biennial school musical, ‘This is Australia’ on Thursday and Friday night.
141 students from year three to six danced, sung and acted their way through an original production that showcased the amazing talents of our school community.
Every two years our Music teacher, Mrs Jenny Aitken, writes an original script that teaches an important lesson whilst catering for the diverse talents within our school. An original script ensures a range of speaking and singing roles that allow all interested children to get involved and have a go. This year’s musical starred Jessie and Lachlan as two city kids travelling to meet their country cousins, Maddy and Cade. Mrs Bateman, Mrs Aitken, Mr Orrell and Mr Bowd played the parents and grandparents of the children, and almost thirty other students shared various speaking roles.
This year the Australiana theme allowed for the children to broaden their repertoire of Australian country and rock music, to learn a range of dance styles with Miss Mel McKinless and permitted the teaching staff to join the children on stage for the classic ‘Eagle Rock’.
Staging such a fabulous production requires the involvement of the whole school community and is just another example of the wonderful community that we are all a part of.
